A well-known staple for years all across New England, Legal Sea Foods has never disappointed me.  It’s a chain restaurant that doesn’t feel like a chain and delivers delicious food, specializing in fresh seafood.  What’s special about their new seaport location is its unbeatable location on the Boston Harbor.  What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon eating delicious food while watching sailboats go by?

I sat down for a late lunch, after having just ran a 10K so my appetite was ready.  One of my favorite traditions is to enjoy a cold beer after running a road race and I wasn’t about to stop now.  I ordered myself a tasty beer from a local brewing company.  After scanning a few plates of other patrons around me, I knew I could have easily been quite content getting fish and chips or fried scallops for my entree.  After all, I just ran 6.2 miles! However after hearing the specials, I went for a Salmon dish.  I’m glad I did!  I’m a huge salmon lover, but unfortunately I don’t take the time to prepare it that often for myself.  Also, I quickly learned that cooking fish in a studio apartment doesn’t make for a pleasant lingering odor.  The salmon at Legal’s was cooked perfectly on a bed of soba noodles and bok choy – neither were drenched in oil, both were perfectly seasoned.  I finished my entire plate but I didn’t feel too stuffed.    What’s great about the menu here is there are plenty of options to suit a craving for fried fish or lighter fare.  Unlike the more traditional clam shacks along the coast, where your options may be limited to heavy-battered fish plates, there are many great dishes that are grilled and accompany a wide selection of fresh vegetables.  My Sister and Dad enjoyed a great big salad of greens with lobster– all meat and no mayo.  My Mom had steamed haddock with a great vegetable medley.  My family tapped off our delicious meal with a strawberry rhubarb crisp for dessert, split between the four of us.  Normally, we probably wouldn’t have ordered dessert at lunch but I think none of us wanted to leave our beautiful view at our table!  After a few bites each and feeling quite satisfied, it was gone.  I hope to be back at Legal’s soon to explore their menu more and take in more of that view.
