My husband and I went to Forest Grill for a Friday night date. We had been there once prior and remembered it being excellent so we decided to try it again; it definitely lived up to our expectations.
As I browsed the menu, the French Onion Soup appetizer immediately grabbed my eye, as it is definitely a rare treat. Knowing that I would most likely indulge in dessert, I decided to compromise and start with a salad. I ordered the heirloom beet salad with organic greens, goat cheese and candied walnuts, dressing on the side (not a bad compromise!). I just used a bit of the dressing as the salad was delicious and flavorful without it and I only ate about half the walnuts, as they were quite sweet, but finished everything else. My second course was sensational. I rarely find Dover Sole on a menu, and even when I do, I don’t always order it, as it is quite an expensive fish. This particular preparation was so enticing that I decided to splurge. The Dover Sole with Sauce Veronique included a perfect filet of fish on a bed of cauliflower, capers, almonds, grapes and a cauliflower puree. An elegant touch was a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar on the edge of the plate. It was delicious and I ate it all with the exception of the bite I shared with my husband. The dessert menu offered many elegant options but the ice cream sandwich of the day, which was comprised of Tahitian vanilla gelato surrounded by homemade chocolate chip cookies immediately grabbed my attention. We decided to share this, which was a perfect choice since the order included two ice cream sandwiches and would have been too large for one person.
Even with the dessert indulgence, I left this meal feeling satisfied but not overly full. The food at Forest Grill is delicious, elegantly prepared and uses fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. The setting and service is equally chic. We enjoyed our evening out and look forward to returning soon and experiencing a new seasonal menu.
