What I had:
Wok-charred udon noodles

This week I met a friend for dinner at Myers + Chang, in Boston’s South End. This is my second time eating here and it continues to be a restaurant that I will keep on my radar. The décor is hip and inviting and you’re received with multiple greetings from their friendly staff. I love that they keep part of their restaurant available for walk-ins only – great to take advantage of if you’re in the area.
I know I’m at a great restaurant when it takes me a while to figure out which dish to order. It’s so easy to find healthy, lighter dishes here. It’s also just as easy to indulge! Their menu offers an exotic spin on traditional Asian dishes. They accommodate substitutions easily for brown rice instead of white rice, chicken instead of beef, offer plentiful vegetarian options and promote using local ingredients. They actually have complete separate menus for vegetarians, gluten-free, nut-free, and shellfish-free dishes – pretty great! You can tell the chefs must have fun creating their menu with the different food combinations.
I went more “safe” with my choice and ordered wok-charred udon noodles. I knew I wanted a noodle dish and was sold on the inclusion of baby bok choy. This is a vegetable that I rarely take the time to prepare on my own and I don’t know why because I love it! One of my complaints was that I wanted more bok choy in my dish. Also, I felt like the dish was a bit too heavy on the oyster sauce for my liking, but it certainly didn’t feel drenched. I ate my meal using chopsticks (other utensils are available). This is actually a great trick to help slow down your eating speed if you haven’t quite mastered the skills of using chopsticks (like me!). I felt like I got full off of less food than usual and was able to wrap up my leftovers and enjoy the next day for lunch. (Tasted great the next day, too!).
For a casual restaurant with a great vibe I’d definitely check out Myers + Chang. I know I want to continue to explore their menu more so I’ll be back soon!
