I love good pizza. It is definitely a food I could eat more frequently than I do; we generally we enjoy pizza delivered or out (or sometimes homemade) about twice a month. Pizzeria Biga offers a gourmet Neapolitan style thin-crust pizza prepared fresh in a brick oven and has been on my list of places to try. My husband, son and I came for an early dinner on a Saturday night. While the variety of pizza toppings looked enticing, my pregnant-brain could not think of anything but pizza margherita on whole-wheat crust, and I truly enjoyed it. I had 4 small pieces of the individual pizza portion, which was light and flavorful with a wonderful crisp thin crust. I also started with a simple, but very fresh and delicious garden salad (hold the croutons, dressing on the side). This was not only fresh and tasty but helped keep my pizza intake to a reasonable portion.
The menu offers a myriad of delicious toppings and I cannot wait to make it back and try some of their delicious options such as mushrooms with goat cheese or eggplant with roasted tomatoes. I might even create my own personal pie next time. My husband selected a sausage pizza; he said it was delicious and cleaned his plate before helping me with my pizza. My one-year-old enjoyed a small portion of meatballs along with sweet potatoes (brought from home) and a few bites of mom’s pizza (perhaps one day he will be writing reviews of his own).
The owner of the restaurant, Bacco, located just up the road, started pizzeria Biga. Like Bacco, Biga prides itself on using good quality, all natural ingredients and they do not add sugar or commercial yeast to the dough. They also offer the option of whole-wheat or gluten-free crust.
